Hortas in Vitro was a commission funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to replace defective glass in the greenhouses at The University of Oxford Botanic Garden.

The featured image is one of a series of photographs of pollen grains and seeds collected in the greenhouses. They were photographed on a scanning electron microscope and magnified up to X5000 to reveal an abundance of complex ornamental structures and forms. The resulting images were then etched onto the replacement
panes of glass as part of a permanent artwork.
